Pest Control
How to Grow Your Pest Control Company Fast: Wyatt Chambers
Sep 23, 2024
I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Wyatt Chambers—someone I consider to be a real authority in the pest control space. Wyatt’s background is staggering. He founded CS Design Studios (a digital marketing agency) about 15 years ago, then later launched Swarm Pest Control Marketing, a firm laser-focused on pest control services. He’s also a co-owner or co-founder of four different pest control companies, serves as a CMO for various organizations, and played a huge role in Flock Off—now under the banner of SEMA—a technology product serving pest control needs.
I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of people in local SEO and pest control, but Wyatt’s journey really caught my attention. We connected a few months back, and I knew I had to get him on the podcast. Let’s dive into his story, talk mindset, and cover some actionable tips for anyone running or marketing a pest control company.

From UPS to Digital Marketing
Wyatt shared how he spent nearly a decade at UPS, originally thinking he was simply building a career, only to realize that he was actually nurturing his entrepreneurial spirit. Over time, he moved into an e-commerce consultant role, helping Fortune 500 companies optimize their shipping, operations, and technology.
But here’s the moment that changed everything for him: witnessing young entrepreneurs crushing it through Google advertising strategies like pay-per-click. After that lightbulb moment, Wyatt realized he could create, build, and scale online presence for companies by combining creativity with digital marketing know-how.
The Birth of CS Design Studios
While at a telecommunications company, Wyatt essentially built a mini design agency within that business. Eventually, he wondered: “Why not do this for myself?” That’s how CS Design Studios was officially born. Their first big win was landing a deal to build a website for an energy drink company. Armed with nothing but grit, creativity, and a willingness to outwork the big guys, Wyatt and his small team secured the account and delivered an impressive, Flash-heavy website (Flash was big back then!).
Over the years, CS Design Studios grew into a multi-million-dollar agency, working with everything from government agencies to colleges, all the way to local service-based businesses. Along the way, Wyatt discovered that community and peer groups are invaluable for growing both personally and professionally—something we’ll dive into more below.
Why Pest Control?
If you’re wondering how Wyatt transitioned into the pest control niche, you’re not alone. It started when he joined an exclusive local business group (collectively representing over $500 million in revenue). There, he met partners who had deep roots in large-scale pest control organizations. They proposed a new venture: a brand-new pest control company. Wyatt signed on, brought his marketing expertise and investment to the table, and got a real crash course in everything pest control—from operations and trucks to marketing and brand strategy.
Before long, he discovered a passion for helping pest control operators (PCOs) scale effectively. He launched Swarm Pest Control Marketing to put his specialized skills to work for an industry where he could drive real impact.
Growth Mindset: The First Requirement
If you’re in pest control (or any business, really), Wyatt believes you must have a growth mindset. It’s that simple:
Growth Mindset
If you’re perfectly content staying a “one-truck operation,” that’s cool. But if you want to scale, you have to embrace the idea of pushing yourself and your company forward.Great Reputation
Wyatt insists that the first thing he checks for is a strong, positive reputation. If a company has a 2-star rating with hundreds of reviews and no plan to fix it, it’s almost impossible to make progress—even with the best SEO or ads in the world. Your online reputation forms the backbone of your marketing success.
Winning in Local Search
Both Wyatt and I agree that Google Local Service Ads (LSAs) and a fully optimized Google Business Profile are must-haves. Local Service Ads can quickly become a lead-generation machine for pest control if you maintain great reviews and properly set up your service categories. Likewise, focusing on Google Business Profile optimization—especially building up those first 10, then 50, and ideally 100 reviews—dramatically increases your visibility and credibility.
Key Action Steps for Pest Control Operators:
Prioritize Local Service Ads for near-immediate results.
Build and optimize your Google Business Profile (GBP).
Ask every satisfied customer for an honest review to hit that 100-review milestone.
Offline Marketing: Don’t Ignore It
While both of us love Google platforms, Wyatt shared some awesome, tried-and-true offline tactics:
Wrapped Trucks
A high-visibility wrap is essentially a roaming billboard—and a powerful one at that.Community Involvement
Sponsor local events, hand out branded Frisbees, Fly Swatters, or other fun freebies people will actually use.Lawn Signs
After completing a service, ask if you can put a lawn sign out for a week or a month. This simple tactic sparks neighborly conversations and expands brand awareness.
The Power of Peer Groups & Masterminds
One recurring theme in Wyatt’s success: peer groups. He’s a member of multiple CEO and local business-owner collectives. These groups share wins, troubleshoot challenges, and hold each other accountable. The key is finding or starting a peer group where everyone is open to giving and receiving actionable feedback. Whether you’re a solo operator or a $50 million pest control company, tapping into a network of like-minded individuals can catapult your business growth in ways you’d never imagine.
Faith, Mindset, and Business
Wyatt and I also touched on our faith in Christ and the role it plays in everything we do—personally and professionally. We discussed how a positive, service-first mentality can set you apart in the business world. At the end of the day, caring about people—your clients and your team—creates an environment of trust and reliability. And that’s the best foundation for business growth.
Final Thoughts
I absolutely loved this conversation with Wyatt—he’s the perfect blend of tech-savvy marketer and battle-tested entrepreneur who has navigated big wins and tough challenges across multiple businesses. His advice on building a strong reputation, focusing on LSAs, optimizing Google Business Profiles, and staying plugged into peer groups are all pure gold for any pest control owner looking to grow.
